1 Beaverdam Road, Asheville, NC 28804
Located just off of Merrimon Avenue and next to the Ingles Supermarket, this veterinary hospital is a great choice for area pets! Their "Green" building has separate facilities for cats and dogs and a smiling client care team at the front desk. Experienced doctors provide gentle care in a bright, open environment, and you can accompany your pet throughout the hospital for most basic procedures.
Pet Supply Stores
BMPS generally encourages buying from small/local businesses whenever possible - chain stores on this list have earned their spot with high-quality customer service, and care for their four-legged friends!
Patton Avenue Pet Company, Est. 2011
West Asheville: 1388 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806
Downtown: 109 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801
South Asheville: 582 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803
With three locations throughout the Asheville area, this locally owned and operated business is convenient for all area pets! They offer a huge selection of quality, made-in-America products that are good for your pet and the environment! They stock high quality, healthy diet options for pets, and have a knowledgeable staff that's happy to guide pet parents to the best products for them. They work with local rescue groups and offer seminars, workshops, and classes, and even have a "companion animal library", where pet owners can borrow books on nutrition, training, and health. Check out these guys before you go anywhere else!
244 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805
Conveniently located on Tunnel Road next to Verizon Wireless, Pet Supermarket carries a variety of quality toys, bedding, and general pet supplies. They carry only high quality foods for both dogs and cats (this is where BMPS owner/groomer Rachel Mongno gets the food for her household!), and the friendly staff is able to guide pet parents to food choices that are well suited to their pets.
Pet Supplies "Plus"
1856 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803
This pet supply store shares a parking lot with Earth Fare, and earned it's spot on this list years ago thanks to the generosity of their Store Team Leader, Nellie Smith. When BMPS owner/groomer Rachel Mongno adopted Bear the Great Pyrenees, she was not yet working in the pet industry. She didn't have the resources she does now, and was simply a customer with a allergy-ridden, giant dog - Nellie and her team steered Rachel towards a grain-free food that was within her tight budget, and then Nellie went above and beyond: she donated a giant sized crate to Rachel so that she could provide a large, comfortable sleeping area for her big furry boy. This act of kindness and generosity left an indelible mark, and caring for Bear's skin and coat was the catalyst for Rachel's career in the grooming industry!
Animal Rescue Groups
Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue
5526 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher, NC 28732
On Hendersonville Road, just past Smiley's Flea Market, sits an unassuming building and row of kennels - one might easily pass it by without any real notice. This is Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue (CAAR). Since starting up in 2009, CAAR has saved the lives of over 1,000 animals, providing medical care, foster homes, and adoptions to dogs and cats in Transylvania, Henderson, and Buncombe counties. An almost entirely volunteer organization, CAAR relies solely on charitable donations to house and care for all of it's rescued animals. CAAR has become one of the leading animal rescues in WNC, has developed a network that reaches across the country, and their story has been told around the world! Adoptions through CAAR require vet references and home visits prior to approval, ensuring that rescued pets go into the best possible homes and won't ever need rescuing again! BMPS is proud to offer grooming services to CAAR's pets in need. If you're searching for your next furry family member, please consider giving these caring people a look. If you've got hours to donate, or if you're able to open your home up for a foster animal, they can always use a hand.
Asheville Humane Society
14 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville, NC 28806
The Asheville Humane Society is where many of Buncombe County's abandoned or surrendered pets wind up. With a heavy focus on spay/neuter programs, this organization has had a great impact in reducing the number of pets euthanized each year. Their updated shelter and adoption center provide clean, comfortable housing for the dogs and cats in their care, and they can always use the help of donations and volunteers!
Asheville Pet Photography
Owned and operated by April L. Johnson, Asheville Pet Photography provides portrait sessions for your pet, with or without the whole family in the picture! BMPS owner Rachel Mongno has watched this photographer work with over 20 pets, and has seen the positive effect of her gentle demeanor - great photos are the result of great talent and a calm focus!
